Growing Phalaenopsis Orchids in Big Bend, Wisconsin

Genus Phalaenopsis
Genus: Phalaenopsis, pronounced `fal-en-OPP-sis`, common name "moth orchid". Genus of plants that produce new leaves at the top of the plant (monopodial). When the last flower fades, cut the stalk back half way. Plants may form a new branch and start blooming again. This re-blooming feature appears unique to the genus Phalaenopsis.
Genus: Doritis, pronounced `doh-RYE-tis`.
Intergeneric Hybrid: Doritaenopsis, artificial cross between genus Phalaenopsis and genus Doritis, pronounced `doh-RYE-en-OPP-sis`.
